Dried 3D Soil-and-seed Prints

This is what prints look like after plants (in this case mostly grass) wither away.
Most of the prints were made last year and since I have kept them away from sunlight, grass hasn’t yellowed too much.
Unfortunately, I haven’t yet found a way to grow new plants on dried-out prints. Because whenever I try to water them again, they start to crumble and fall apart.

Concrete Blocks with Green Prints

A little experiment with green prints and concrete.

I proceeded very carefully to fill the molds up with concrete, making sure not to damage the prints.

I used watercress seeds. I also wanted to make sure the prints would grow green as soon as possible so I decided not to mix seeds into the soil mixture but to apply them later on top.

Watercress sprouts very quickly. This is the result after about six days.

Watercress also withers away very quickly. So after that I washed the withered plants and soil out of the concrete blocks and filled the holes up with fresh soil and grass seeds. The grass stayed green for about two months.

I presented Print Green at the 2nd Biennial Art & Matières, which took place from 7th to 9th October in Albi, France. This was an event dedicated to promoting soil as a contemporary, ecological, aesthetic and high-quality material for design and architecture.

Printed with water, clay and marble powder mixture with pigment added.

I wanted to make colourful prints with plants, so I added pigment to the soil and water mixture. But unfortunately there was some sort of chemical reaction between soil and pigment and eventually mold started growing but no plants. Nevertheless, some of the prints were quite beautiful.
